Things are starting to look up for my Matty Matt!!! After feeling like he had hit rock bottom (although I know things could have been worse) due to his never ending lawsuit things are finally starting to come together. As you may remember, back in September, I was excited to share the news that he was starting work for the first time in nearly 4 1/2 years. He wasn't making a whole lot but he was back to work. That lifted his spirits considerably. Just being around people again was good for him.
About a month or so ago, a settlement offer was finally made. A whole year after his benefits had been cut off without warning where we struggled to make ends meet. The offer was more than what we anticipated their first offer to be (found out later it was technically their second offer), but a lot less than what his lawyer had proposed. After a week or so of negotiations they reached an agreeable amount. It has been two weeks since Matt signed the settlement contract. They have 30 days to give him the money otherwise they are in default and will be fined or something (I personally don't know the logistics of it all). So he should be getting it within the next couple weeks. He will be able to pay off all his bills and pretty much start over, which is exactly what he needs. This long horrible chapter in his life is nearly closed. Matt is ready to move on with is life!
Which brings me to some recent GREAT news!!! Matt got a major promotion at work and started training for his new position today! He's in a different building on the other side of town, but still works within the same company. Matt has salaried pay now versus an hourly wage. Plus, I don't think they have much if any overtime. From the sounds of it his boss is very laid back as is the work environment. Not to mention hour lunch breaks! I will be able to meet him for lunch the one day during the week I am home :) Yay!!
Things are starting to look up in our household. You know the phrase "Something's Gotta Give?" Well it finally has for Matt. I am so proud of him!

HURRAY!!!!!!!
I am proud to say that after a long four years being off work, Matt has gotten a job. After having his TTD cut back in May we have been scraping by off of my small income. He was told by his lawyer to get a job and that "the company" would have to pay a differential (basically make up the difference so he'd still be getting nearly $48,000 a year like he was making before) until they come to a settlement. Sounds easy, but many places weren't thrilled that he had been off work for four years nor the fact that he made so much prior. They were scared he'd take a higher payng position later on down the road. Umm... wouldn't any normal person do that? Nonetheless, Matt will still have to wait for that settlement for who knows haw many more years at the rate things have been moving and I am sure it will be like pulling teeth trying to to get them to pay the differential, but at least Matt has finally found something. I think this will help his with his self esteem, depression and overall negative view of the world that has worsened over the six months.
I am so excited for Matt to get out there and feel like he and his knowledge/talents can be utilized and appreciated by someone other than me. He keeps claiming he isn't excited, but you know deep down he is. I can see it in his eyes. He was glowing when I got home with a smile that streched across his face most of the night. The job won't be too demanding, nor does it pay anywhere close to what he was making before his workman's comp case, but it is the perfect job for him to ease back into the work force. So to Matt I say congratulations, good luck and I know you'll do GREAT!!!
